What do you think has a direct relationship with how we are compensated in this world? The amount of hours we put in, the products we sell, the industry we are in, or the service we provide? If you really think about it, none of these has a direct relationship to our compensation and we can prove it. Do you know someone who works less hours yet makes more money? Then it can’t be hours. What about someone who sells the same products but they make twice as much as you? Or less? Then it can’t be the product. The same is true for services too. So what is it that determines our compensation?
Athletes today make enormous sums of money. There are paintings today that are worth many times more than most homes. CEOs make many times more than their lowest paid employees.
What do these examples have in common? Compensation is based on the impact your work has on other people. It’s as simple as that.
Athletes have millions of fans. They are often role models and an inspiration for our children. They have an impact and therefore they have the compensation to match.
Artists from the past lived not in abundance, but at the will of a benefactor or the meager income their artwork brought in. And yet after they died, their works of art became valuable. Why is that? Their public exposure was minimal. The Michael Angelo’s and the Rembrandts were well compensated, but others went unnoticed until their artwork was noticed, recognized as genius and exposed to millions of people. Nothing was different except their impact on the masses.
In today’s world technology accelerates impact. A person can have a greater impact on more people in a shorter period of time. For us personally, we find a great sense of fulfillment in sharing LifeAbundanceInfo.com with the world. Due to technological advances we can reach thousands of people in an instant. By the way, even though LAI is free, it has increased our abundance. Potential business deals have been proposed because the people have gotten to know us through our website.
How do you impact your world?
If you want to experience abundant compensation, start by asking yourself two questions:
1. Do I have an impact on a lot people?
2. How can I have a bigger impact on more people?
Your answers will tell you exactly what to do to attract abundance into your life.
In our last article, we discussed the science of how our brains work, we ended the week by saying, “Repeated habitual patterns actually form neurological connections and pathways in our brain. Your brain literally changes physically in response to things you have done over and over again, emotional patterns you have, and even your thoughts. This is called brain plasticity.” We did stop just as it was getting good, but we wanted to be sure to take the time to cover this fascinating subject in detail.
We’ll cover how to create new neurological connections. Changing old connections takes consistent action and physical work. Let’s look at how this process works. The first step is to consistently shift your thoughts and actions. It may seem a time consuming task to monitor our thoughts and shift them, but it can be done. Quickly, you’ll discover it’s easy to “think” powerfully.
In order to effect these connections, you must do things differently. Therefore, it’s important to add action to the process. Action and Thought are derived from different neurological connections.
Before we get into the “how”, let’s explain how the brain works. Different parts of the brain are responsible for different actions; hence they involve different neural pathways. The pathways that are strictly thought-based do not correlate to the pathways that are responsible for action which consists of motion and activities of the body. To simplify, thinking something is not the same as doing something.
Have you ever had to give a speech? You might have written it, memorized it, spent hours and hours with it. What happened when you walked up to the podium? Though you might have been a bit nervous, what else happens? During the speech, you realize that it’s dry, you’re not connecting with the audience and that overall, it’s boring and monotone!
A good speech evokes excitement, emotions, humor, and connection with your audience. When you activate different neurological pathways this is the result rather than when you are reading. It becomes a very different experience. Getting good at giving speeches requires utilizing multiple areas of the brain. It happens when you practice out loud (involve the speech centers). Visualize your audience in front of you (involves the emotional pathways of the brain by evoking emotional reaction to what you’re seeing), and finally, move! (That involves specific motor pathways). If you practice like this, you will find that when you relax, you deliver a great speech.
Everything you do gives you an opportunity to retain more of what you hear, learn and experience. Just listening results in retaining about 10 – 15% of what you hear. When you take notes you will retain more but it wanes with time. Engaging in a discussion about the topic increases retention, but taking action on what you’ve learned, will maximize retention and assist in “keeping” it. The more processes your brain is involved with, the more information you remember. It’s all about activating more neurological pathways.
We have said before that we are not advocates of positive thinkingand this is a major reason why. Thinking to yourself, “I am rich. I am rich. I am rich” will never produce riches no matter how many times you say it. Thinking something isn’t going to attract to you what you desire. Sorry, it just doesn’t work that way. Action is required and as you start to act, the neurological pathways in your brain will develop.
When you begin this process you will face choices to reaffirm your thoughts and actions or not. This is a nice way to say that there will be plenty of opportunities to revert back to your old patterns. We see these as golden opportunities because reaffirming your thoughts and actions strengthens your resolve and your neurological pathways.
The neurological pathways require that daily action be taken. It’s uncomfortable to not to go, just as it was uncomfortable to get going in the first place. This is the secret to great abundance.
The neurological pathways have been set to not only think about fitness but to take daily action. It is uncomfortable not to go, just as it might have been uncomfortable to get going in the first place. Herein lies the secret to attracting abundance. Certain individuals live and act in abundance consistently. We might wonder, “How do they do it, it must take so much effort.” The truth is it takes them no more effort than it takes you, they just have programmed their brains differently and it has adapted to meet their demands.
Choose one activity that will move you forward. For instance, if you want to lose weight, don’t take on diet, and exercise at once if that has failed in the past. Choose one. Choose one new diet habit you know will work for you. Just drink water, for instance. Do that repeatedly for a couple of weeks, and then add reducing fat. Then add sugary treats. Whatever your step is, take it. Adapt it, BE it, then move onto the next one. It doesn’t all have to take place at once if that doesn’t work for you. Form the pathways, and watch your life change.
What is abundance marketing? No, we aren’t talking about doing “lots of” marketing. Abundance marketing is actually a way to market, a way to brand your business, and a way to stand out from the crowd. Marketing is the “face of your business.” It’s not just something you pay for, though you may pay for some of it. Actually the best kind of marketing you could ever do is the kind you don’t pay for.
The best kind of marketing is word of mouth referrals – people talking to others about your business. Just in case you don’t know why, no amount of advertising you do can compare to someone finding out about your company from someone they already trust!
These days, word of mouth advertising has the potential of spreading like wildfire. It’s a term you might have heard before. “Going Viral.” It can’t be bought, so what do you do? GIVE it away. This is definitively Abundance Marketing.
How can you be an abundant marketer?
Know your customer and what they value most. Most businesses automatically assume that the pricing of their product or service is the number one factor in a customer’s decision. Truthfully, price is only a part of the decision-making process and it’s not even the most important part. Now, if you are thinking we are crazy for saying price doesn’t matter that much, let’s take a closer look.
Are you looking for a vacation? We’ve got one for you! It’s $15,000 for 1 week. Are you in? If you are thinking “no way” because it’s too expensive and you’d never spend that on just a week, we’d like to tell you a little more about it. This vacation starts in 1 of the world’s most exotic vacation spots anywhere, the meals are 5 stars every day. You will be transported in limousines, have access to boats and captains, have a personal butler, tour guide, and lastly, you will have the opportunity to invite 3 people you’ve always wanted to meet. You will hang out with them, and have relaxing fun enjoying their company. As a bonus, we’ll enter you in a lottery to win $1,000,000 tax free and you will be one of only 6 people in the drawing.
Have you changed your mind? Ready to pack your bags? Why the change of heart? Clearly, it wasn’t the price. It was the perceived value! Customers have one thing at the top of their list of reasons to take action and buy, and that is, the value they perceive in your offer. You might think that you couldn’t possibly give all that away in your business. No business can, which is why deals like that are never offered. So, instead everyone competes on price.
Here is a secret! Your product or service is not the only thing that can add perceived value. Perceived value increases because of you all by yourself. How? Abundance marketing!
Our philosophy is that knowing what your customer’s value gives you an opportunity to give it to them for free. Yes, we said free. Making money on this isn’t what you want to concentrate on. Think about how they will feel, what they will say. You’re the cool business owner that helped them out of a jam, offered them a great product of service and they are going to be sure to tell everyone they know. Your company was the one who helped and didn’t charge a dime.
When your customer does come to buy something from you, it is your job to provide them with quality service. They will become your customer for as long as you want them. You have provided value for them and in return, they won’t be concerned about price. Once they are your customer, you can “add to the cool factor” by offering other perks into the mix.
Most supermarket chains utilize a strategy called “Loss Leaders.” These are the flyers you receive in your newspaper or in the mail. They offer 2 for 1 deals, maybe a buy 2 get 1 free opportunity. Our local store even does a 10 for $10. The store is willing to take a small loss on the items they are selling because they know that if they can get you INTO the store for these “values,” that you’re more likely to stay IN the store and do the rest of your shopping. The biggest chains have used this strategy for years. And most of these chains started out as corner stores.
By increasing the value of your products and company in the eyes of your customers and continuing to find ways to add value to their lives at no extra charge, you will lose a few dollars up front, but you’ll gain an empire.
Incorporate empowering material into your reading and experiences which will in turn produce more empowered thoughts and inspiration. Then complement that abundance mindset with actions. It’s all that separates you from where you are to where you want your life to be.
The human mental capacity is tremendous. Everyone has six mental faculties that make us potentially powerful people. But, we live in a physical world, and our mental processes have to be transformed into the physical world through action. It is the only way to live the life we desire. Action is the key that unlocks our power.
We want to be clear. The “brain” and “mind” are not interchangeable. The brain is the physical “factory” for our bodies. It is the switching station for electrical impulses and hormone creation that regulates the body. Our minds, on the other hand, it is made up of our emotions thoughts, and beliefs.
Have you ever driven on a road that you take often, but instead of going to your usual destination, say at exit 12, your intention is instead, to go further to exit 15. You get in your car, start your journey, chat on the phone, fiddle with the radio, and suddenly your exit comes up and you move to that lane and turn on your blinker. And then you realize, it’s your usual exit, not your destination today! You were on auto-pilot. You’d formed a habit of getting off at exit 12, and so without your attention, your mind did what it always did, followed its pattern and initiated your exit from the highway. This is your physical body working its patterns. They are ingrained.
So what does this have to do with living in abundance?
Let’s imagine you have read all the books, listened to the tapes, and attended every seminar you encountered. It all makes sense and you’ve even started to think empowering thoughts most of the time. Is your life where you want it to be? Probably not. Not unless you have taken some sort of action. This is where people get stuck. They’ve “done the work” but haven’t put it into action.
This occurs because our bodies haven’t had the benefit of repeated action-taking patterns ingrained in them. You can’t get around it. If you want to initiate change and have your life blossom abundantly, then take action now.
Does this sound familiar? You know there’s a step to take, but something makes you hesitate. Habits are a strong force in our lives. It’s not about having a good mental attitude. Back it up with repeated actions that form habits. Your brain will literally, physically change in response to the things you’ve done on a recurring basis.
Now we ask, what do we do to change our habits? In order to do that, you’ll have to alter the neurological connections in your brain. How? We’ll get back to that next week. Until then, choose to act abundantly.

It is one thing to be aware of abundance yet it’s another thing altogether to be involved in abundance. Often people feel that awareness and thought is important but the reality is it will seldom prove to be enough. We must also be involved in abundance!
You’ve sought abundance, right? Love, health growth, money all are the most desired things when people talk about abundance. They want it. They strive for it but many fail to experience it. This phenomenon can be explained. It’s simple.
For years, our parents said to us, things like, “You don’t bring your group of friends “up,” they bring you down.” Or, “You are who you hang out with.” It’s true. It’s a commonly known fact that our circle of friends most often reflects our income level, our aspirations and our achievements. We may have heard it as kids, but we know it still holds true today.
In order to create abundance, be clear what type of abundance you desire. Take a look around you. Who and what are influences in your life? Are they great examples of abundance in action?
We have good news or bad news. It depends on the people you surround yourself with. Without exception, who we are with, and where we spend our time affects our lives. If you, like us, looked around and saw that you were surrounded by a scarcity mindset, then we’ve got some suggestions.
Let’s start with people. Find people who inspire you to live abundantly. You may know them or not, but they exist, and it’s up to you to find them. This person may be a friend of a friend. Just find someone you might be able to talk to. Don’t give up if they aren’t in your immediate circle!
If you are starting with no one, don’t despair. You have access to more than you realize. Did you think of looking for people on the Internet? Use the tools you have. Access blogs, articles and information on line. The internet is a fabulous vehicle to find the person perfectly suited to your wishes.
Have someone in mind? Great. Before you start to talk to them, be sure that they have done what you want to do. If you want to lose weight, let’s say 100 lbs. or more, do you think that talking to someone that’s lost 30 will be as helpful as reaching out to someone who has lost 150 lbs? Find the right person. The perfect person will have lost weight (the same way you’d like to) and has kept if off for a long time.
The point is to find someone who’s already done what you want to do. The person who has walked in your shoes, will relate to you and more importantly, you’ll listen to what they have to say. You can accept their advice and incorporate it into your life.
That, with which you surround yourself, has the biggest influence on you. If your goal is abundance insure that you are encircled by supportive places, people and things that inspire you. The more you have the more you’ll attract.
So far, we’ve talked about adding people to your circle of influence but what about the people who are already there?
Great question. They are still your friends, and are entitled to live their lives any way they choose, even if it’s from a standpoint of “lack” and “scarcity.” Don’t cut them out of your life, but remember you are at choice. Do you really want to spend a lot of time around their negativity? Just choose to spend more time with people who want the same things you want. Practice your “abundant thinking.” When you find yourself with your negative friends, then the practice will work for you. You know what your truth is; that life can be abundant and easy. Be steadfast in your beliefs. It’s not your job to change your friends’ minds… If you choose abundance and “easy,” maybe your friends will ask you what you’re doing. That’s when you talk to them about what you’ve experienced. Respect their opinions, but respect yours too. Acknowledge their beliefs, and simply choose abundance instead.
If we continue with the “weight” example above, then your “old friends” will be the cake, ice cream, chips or pop that you’ve consumed and “kept around you.” Who are your “new friends?” Plan ahead. Be sure to keep your new friends around as much as possible. Remember, though, it’s up to you. Have a bite, a sip or a chip, that’s fine, but remember what you’re ultimate goal is. Don’t be influenced by outside input. Make your own decisions.
Decide how you want to handle these temptations. Surround yourself with people that you want to model and create an environment that supports you. If you know you are going to be in negative or tempting situations, re-enforce your decision to live abundantly so you can go into the situation strong, bring people who are supportive and empowering with you, and/or plan out alternatives to the situation you find yourself in that is not empowering.
You are choosing abundance. If “you are who you hang out with,” then be aware of it, and make the choices that work for you!

“The buck stops here!” We’ve all heard this saying before at some point in our lives. The phrase was popularized by US President Harry Truman. It refers to the fact that Truman felt the President had to make decisions and accept the ultimate responsibility for those decisions. Today, business leaders, parents, teachers, and individuals from all walks of life use this statement. In essence it means responsibility is not passed beyond the person making the point.
We have the freedom to choose our decisions but we are not free from the consequences of those decisions. It is the fear of the responsibility of the consequences, often unknown to us, that creates a tendency in people to pass the responsibility of making decisions to someone else … even when those decisions affect our lives. Passing on responsibility or “passing the buck” is prevalent in today’s society.
You can see it everywhere:
- Lawsuits are a perfect example: Take the cigarette industry. The defendants are the companies. They deny responsibility for producing a product they know to be unhealthy. Sitting at the other table are the plaintiffs, the smokers. They blame the cigarette companies for the consequences of their decision to smoke everyday for fifty years.
- Then we have the world of finance. It’s made up of buyers and sellers; Agents, brokers, fund managers and financial advisors and the public who “pass the buck” by turning over their financial futures to these profiteers, without any interest in learning what it is that is happening to their money. The brokers love the business because whether the market goes up or down, they make their commission. The investor sticks their head in the sand and wonders why they are working at Wal-Mart at 70. Most people prefer to hand over the responsibility of making financial decisions to someone else; a so-called “professional.”
- Many of our government social programs exist because people want to pass the buck. Some would rather leave the responsibility of managing their money in the hands of the government until they retire in hopes there will be an income from that money during retirement. Additionally, other programs exist because people feel it is easier to give money for a program than it is to be personally responsible for reaching out to those in need. It is easier to say, “Government is responsible for taking care of the poor.” But, where is our own accountability in the existence of the poor?
Can you think of other examples? To avoid being responsible, do you create excuses and “pass the buck”? “I’m not old enough.” “I am too old.” “My parents won’t let me.” “I have a boss.” “I’m broke” “I would need 30 hours in a day.” “I don’t have a college education.” “It’s my genes.” The list could go on and on. What excuses do you use?
Understand this. Excuses we give ourselves or others, are not statements of truth. They are a commentary about a current circumstance that we use to not take responsibility. These circumstances have no power over us and they are meaningless until we give them meaning. The meaning we place on an event or circumstance changes everything and here’s the best part: the meaning we give to anything is subjective because it’s a choice.
Did you know Colonel Sanders was 65 years old when he started KFC? He didn’t consider himself too old to start and GROW a restaurant chain that became an international success. Do you?
Do you believe that only 3 months of schooling is an excuse to not become one of the greatest inventors and minds in human history? If you’re thinking, yes … it’s a good thing Thomas Edison didn’t give his circumstances the same meaning as you did.
You can see from these two examples that circumstances such as being 65 or not having any formal education are simply facts until we give them meaning. Beingು could mean “I’m too old” or it could mean “I have more experience than all the other people who want to do this.” Not having education could be “I’m not smart enough” or the meaning could be “I haven’t been limited by what I’ve been taught so I can be more creative.”
I have small, medium and large boxes in front of me. See them? How do you know which one is small and which one is large? It’s because the relationship of the boxes to each other gives them definition or meaning. Now, what if I took the large box and replaced it with a tiny box. Suddenly the medium box appears HUGE. Has your perspective of small medium and large changed?
We do the same thing. We compare our circumstances or ourselves to others and decide what meaning anything in our lives should have. When faced with any situation, we assigned a meaning to it and if that definition also happened to be an excuse for why we couldn’t do what we really desired, we learned to ask ourselves the following 3 questions:
1. Am I 100% sure, beyond even the slightest doubt, that this excuse is true?
2. If it weren’t true, what other meanings could this event have?
3. Which meaning would empower me the most to live my dream?
It is within you to be, do, and have all the things you desire. If it’s to be, it’s up to you. Don’t give your power to create your life to someone else or some circumstance in your life. Instead, make the decision now to choose personal responsibility for your life. Remember, whether you make the decision or you pass that decision on to someone else there is an outcome … You can choose to be empowered, or to be a victim. When you make the decisions in your life, you are empowered to change the outcome based on what you experience. However, if you abdicate the decision making in your life to someone else, you fall victim to their preferences; their wants and desires. If you are currently experiencing the results of someone else’s decision, you are still at choice to decide to continue on this path, or embark on your own.
This is the art of creating your own abundance. It’s simply a choice.
In this world there is ample opportunity to create love, life, abundance, prosperity, and happiness for yourself and others. By creating an attitude of abundance for yourself and in your own life first you can then truly be a role model for others.
Creating your own abundance is an “inside” game. The buck has to stop with you!
